Summertime

So I'm pretty sure we decided we would each put up a little bit about our separate adventures this summer. We're sortof like the sisterhood of the traveling pants, plus three, minus the pants. It's going to be epic when we reunite.. i think. well.. at least for me because I'm in Michigan for 2 months. While I wait to start actually working I've been..

caring for baby birds..

sitting on docks..

becoming less awkward on hammocks..

and enjoying some really beautiful sunsets.

i miss you guys!

Saturday School

Emma, Gracie and I have spent many Saturday morning working with ESL children at a local elementary school. This Saturday was the last one of the year so we went to the park and...

ate popsickles

Swang on swing sets

And blew big bubbles!

The kids are so loving and adorable, but because of budget cuts the Saturday school program may not be able to happen next year! What can we do to stop that from happening?

sometimes we like to sing

Another spectacular thing about That Group of Girls is that 5/6 of us like to sing- the only one who doesn't is Emma, even though she was in Middle School chorus. The only activities she likes to partake in are actually wearing the DNA necklace we made out of our own cheek cells in biology today, selling water bottles, and wearing suggestive short skirts and tall socks. Emma remains a mystery, whereas the rest of us appear in this video from the Spring Concert. And no matter what any of us say, we will always secretly love Mixed Review.

Elsewhere, Continued

Speaking of Elsewhere, it's pretty much our default place to hang out when we're downtown without any plans. I mean, there's always something to do there:

Reading interesting new books...

....chilling in secret aquariums...

...and generally reveling in its awesomeness.

The Upper Part of Elsewhere

On Friday night, Jenna, Gracie, and I went to Elsewhere, an artists' collaborative downtown. Jenna and I had never been there before, and it was quite an experience.

Have you ever looked to see what kind of crazy foods are in international grocery stores? Here are a few we found.

School

I have a confession to make. Sometimes I LOVE school, even the day before exams.

Yesterday, I turned a tree at school into a "wish tree". I'm very pleased that it's already so popular. Here are some of my favorites:

Exams

This week Emily is kicking exams in the butt.

We like to spend sunny days going kayaking. Even though if you're like Jenna you have to be careful not to fall in...

Occasionally..

Occasionally, we put up posters for things that may or may not be actually lost. Like goldfish, or anacondas, or souls, or virginity..

Other times, though, we just throw them off very tall buildings.

Who's Who

Jeff is not officially part of that group of girls, but he is our favorite ice cream server.

a statement of individuality

never have i ever capitalized anything.

Meet and Greet

Steph is easy to make friends with because she’s funny, open minded, and likes pretty much everyone who likes her. She can be grumpy, especially in the morning, but when she’s in a good mood she’s a sarcastic, friendly, bundle of love. Though it may seem like a stereotype, it has been scientifically proven that most Jewish and black guys are attracted to Stephanie. Steph has an amazing ability of being lazy but getting everything done well in the end. She’s always ready for doing new things or meeting new people. She’s always a fun and efficient leader of groups she’s in charge of. Steph can often be heard reciting the same phrases over and over again. Steph will probably end up on a reality TV show where Jewish and black guys compete for her love, then raise 8 Asian children with the winner on national television.

Megan’s life is worthy of writing a fiction novel about. She blazes her own trail and is always embarking on fun adventures. She’s managed to find boyfriends or cute boys literally everywhere she goes. In fact, her life is filled with, perhaps, too many boys. She can always make a get together fun and interesting with creative ideas and a big smile. Megan is always in a phase, and will probably do a lot of different things because of it. If you need a strange thing or unique piece of clothing, she probably has it in her closet. She’s probably the most badass of the group of girls, but that’s not saying too much. Megan’s the most likely to die of an allergic reaction to bee stings while nude modeling on an organic farm.

Jenna is the kind of girl who always drives the speed limit. She gets upset when borrowed items are not quickly returned. If you ask her to hang out, she more often than not will have to plan around a family event such as... dinner, trick or treating, or watching the Muppet movie with Ashanti. But, despite these type-A characteristics, Jenna is probably overall the most laid-back of that group of girls. She’s not easily shaken by unbelievable amounts of homework or sappy movies. She is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, and is easy to laugh with. In fact, she’s almost always laughing. Though down to earth, Jenna is the most likely to end up on America’s Next Top Model due to her long and stretchy body, trendy tie-die shirts, and love of bad television. If not a reality TV model, she will likely be a Spanish speaking volleyball player or a bendaroo.

Gracie, also known as Gracky, can recall names, numbers, and facts almost as efficiently as World Book Encyclopedia. She’s quick to correct mistakes made by others and is often better at finding mistakes than experienced teachers. Gracie has a wide repertoire of biology and literary jokes, but is also generally hilarious all around, if you can understand her super-speed talking. She has a quirky style accented by fashionable tank tops and self-made stencil t-shirts. Though she is always fun when around, she might mysteriously disappear without saying where she’s going and you will only see her bootylicious butt as she walks away. Gracie’s intelligence and creativity will certainly take her amazing places, probably even past the finals on Jeopardy.

At first glance Emma may only seem quiet and organized, in color-coordinated outfits, driving her Volvo station wagon and always getting to class on time, but underneath, Emma’s the kind of girl who loves erratically wearing short skirts and tall socks in order to fulfill teenage boy’s fantasies. Emma’s life is filled with cute and creative crafts and collages and eccentrically flavored homemade breads. Emma was a vegetarian before it was cool. Emma loves people, exploring and caring for the world and cultures around her, but she strongly dislikes cuddling. Emma has displayed her caring for the world around her by taking care of her sick cat, even when it came down with a mysterious case of herpes. Emma will likely be a professional advocate for environmental laws which will probably pass due to her habit of wearing knee socks to debates.

Like the rest of that group of girls, Emily has a great sense of humor that is mostly only appreciated by her close friends. Emily can most likely be found studying for the SATs while wearing ruffles with two wiggly dogs at her feet. Though Emily’s catch phrase is that she’s “Fuh-reaking out,” in general Emily is on top of her busy schedule. Emily’s life is dotted by many sagas of lovers and almost lovers due to the fact that she likes to like boys and they like to like her. Though sadly she has not she has not achieved her life goal of making out with a French boy under the Eiffel Tower. Emily can be very spacey and will sometimes do mindless things such as scratch her arm with a fork. Emily’s the kind of person who looks at the glass half-full. Emily will definitely become a famous opera singer, though she might lose a role or two when she absent mindedly opens the stage curtains at the wrong moment by leaning on the ropes backstage.
