Where Are They Now?

Hello loyal followers,

You've probably been checking this blog every day, wondering whatever happened to that really cool group of high school girls who documented all the fun interesting things they did. Well they had to go to college for a while, then they finished with college (well...most of them) and started doing fun interesting things in the real world! So without further ado, I present Where Are They Now: That Group of Girls Edition.

Emily
Emily is still Emily, meaning that not only does she still cuddle with dogs on her couch in her pajamas, she's still at UNC for one more semester to finish her thesis. She just  submitted it and is now focusing on visiting and applying to grad schools to get her Masters of Music. She and Gracie are the only TGOG members still living within a reasonable distance of each other, so naturally they still hang out and plan amazing Halloween costumes together.

Emma
Emma is an analyst at an investment banking firm in Charlotte, so to someone financially illiterate like me that just means she is a fancy business lady. She seems to be very busy and important, but luckily has found time since graduation to hang out with friends from college, and even surprise Steph in Chicago on her birthday!

Gracie
Gracie is taking a gap year in Durham, which means that while she is done studying for the MCAT, she is still drinking a lot of wine. She just finished submitting her medical school applications and is working as a research technician, so her life right now mostly involves a lot of waiting (and passing time by writing lengthy blog posts only the people mentioned will read).

Jenna
Jenna is the first potential doctor in TGOG, as she has moved to the NJ/NYC area to get a PhD in psychology! She spends her time doing psychology things, like taking classes and doing research and clinic volunteering, and NYC things, like strolling through Central Park and trying to spot celebrities.

Megan
Megan has a job in civil engineering in Virginia Beach. While living at the beach had its advantages over the summer, now she occupies her time with more noble pursuits like visiting vineyards and zoos, playing in sports leagues, and listening to eccentric podcasts at work.

 Steph
Steph does cool marketing stuff in Chicago, and based on her frequent snapchats, her job mostly consists of yummy food, cool but random music performances, and being angry at spreadsheets. She is also enjoying all Chicago has to offer, from basketball games to amazing musicians past and present (aka Pete Wentz) to baby otters just learning their way in the world.

Adventures in categorization

For a while, TGOG has all joked about all of the different ways our friends can be categorized. It seems like no matter how you split us down the middle, you can always put a label on either half. We started out with the obvious ones, like Jews and Non-Jews or Victorians and Non-Victorians, but I endeavored to make an all-inclusive list on a long car ride with Emma and TGOB members Patrick and Matthias, with long-distance help from Megan. Thanks to the combinatorics skills endowed to me by Mrs. Cornet, I listed out every possible division of TGOG and we managed to categorize them all.

The final list:
Gracie Megan Emily / Jenna Stephanie Emma: Victorians
Megan Jenna Gracie / Emily Stephanie Emma: scavenger hunt groups, also have had bangs at some point since childhood
Emily Jenna Emma / Gracie Megan Stephanie: have older siblings
Megan Jenna Emma / Gracie Emily Stephanie - ever been to Spain
Gracie Megan Emma / Emily Jenna Stephanie: Jews and non-Jews, BC Calc, AND middle names beginning with M
Megan Emily Jenna / Gracie Stephanie Emma: Mr. Griffith's advising
Megan Emily Stephanie / Gracie Jenna Emma - lettered in varsity sports
Megan Emily Emma / Jenna Gracie Stephanie - ever been vegetarian
Megan Jenna Stephanie / Emma Emily Gracie - dated someone from a different state
Gracie Jenna Emily / Megan Stephanie Emma - have only 1 dog

We can't wait to divide our next epic scattergories game in new and interesting ways.

Summertime

So I'm pretty sure we decided we would each put up a little bit about our separate adventures this summer. We're sortof like the sisterhood of the traveling pants, plus three, minus the pants. It's going to be epic when we reunite.. i think. well.. at least for me because I'm in Michigan for 2 months. While I wait to start actually working I've been..

caring for baby birds..

sitting on docks..

becoming less awkward on hammocks..

and enjoying some really beautiful sunsets.

i miss you guys!

Saturday School

Emma, Gracie and I have spent many Saturday morning working with ESL children at a local elementary school. This Saturday was the last one of the year so we went to the park and...

ate popsickles

Swang on swing sets

And blew big bubbles!

The kids are so loving and adorable, but because of budget cuts the Saturday school program may not be able to happen next year! What can we do to stop that from happening?

sometimes we like to sing

Another spectacular thing about That Group of Girls is that 5/6 of us like to sing- the only one who doesn't is Emma, even though she was in Middle School chorus. The only activities she likes to partake in are actually wearing the DNA necklace we made out of our own cheek cells in biology today, selling water bottles, and wearing suggestive short skirts and tall socks. Emma remains a mystery, whereas the rest of us appear in this video from the Spring Concert. And no matter what any of us say, we will always secretly love Mixed Review.
